BIO

Marco Sollazzo is an Italian composer, oud player, and improviser based in Scotland creating immersive sonic worlds through oud, modality, and cross-genre composition.

Originally from Naples, he studied double bass, jazz, and composition at the Conservatory of Parma before spending 10 years in Türkiye studying oud, Turkish makam, and modal music at the Ege Conservatory in Izmir and through cultural immersion. He also holds an MA in Music with Distinction from Edinburgh Napier University.

His work combines Mediterranean modal language, contemporary composition, atmospheric sound worlds, and improvisation, creating immersive music shaped by irregular rhythms, melodic exploration, emotional intensity, and fluid forms beyond conventional genre boundaries.

Supported by Creative Scotland, his upcoming album Sketches of Memory (Autumn 2026) brings together an international line-up.

Conceived both for intimate solo oud recitals and a dynamic ensemble featuring voice, electric guitar, bass, and drums, the project places the oud at the very centre to explore the tension between visceral melody, spacious modal sounds, shifting, irregular rhythms, and cross-cultural dialogue.
